Millennium Health, a lab testing business agreed today to pay the federal government $256 million to resolve allegations it submitted false or illegal claims to Medicare, Medicaid and other programs while engaging in a urine testing referral scheme.
The $256 million settlement will resolve all claims that Millennium “systematically cheated federal health care programs by billing for excessive and unnecessary urine drug tests” from January 2008 to May 2015, as well as for false billings related to genetic testing, according to the agreement.
In addition, the settlement covers claims that Millennium provided free point of care urine drug testing (POCT) cups to physicians in “express exchange for an agreement to send those urine specimens back to Millennium for further, expensive testing” in violation of the Stark Law and the Anti-Kickback Statute, the government said.
