A day doesn’t go by where we don’t hear news of another client getting bullied by Cigna over payment. While each scenario is likely different, the overall theme is that Cigna is not paying; finding some excuse why they don’t; and then daring the provider to sue.
Some think this is simply posturing by Cigna while they endeavor to be purchased by Anthem and keep their profits high and costs low.
Others think this is in response to the increased issuance of Cigna policies in Florida under the ACA (“Obamacare”) for people who have “recently moved” to Florida to obtain treatment.
Others believe that this is Cigna going on the offensive against unscrupulous treatment providers and labs who overutilize services or bill for services not provided.
Either way, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for a while.
