One would think that journalistic integrity and ethics would trump the need for the story to “bleed” in order for it to “lead.”
But again, another local news station has resorted to sensational reporting in order to “stir up the neighbors” into a NIMBY (Not In My Backyard) frenzy.

Novus Detox (a WLT client) is seeking site plan approval to located its highly-acclaimed inpatient medical detox facility at a previously approved location in Boynton Beach.
The City Commission earlier in the year revamped its entire zoning code to restrict areas where such uses could be placed and allowed very limited remaining space for such uses.
While the zoning limitation could be challenged as illegal (there was no empirical, statistic evidence introduced that such uses were adverse to the community but for discriminatory perception), we have let it go for now, hoping the City would do the “right thing” when the time did come for approval.
That remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, CBS12 news and other continue trumpeting the NIMBY call and causing people who need care to stay in their homes out of fear that society continues to reject them as the unwanted.
Perhaps South Florida, CBS12, and others with think similarly need to start realizing that prescription pill abuse is a NATIONAL problem, which the CDC has identified as an EPIDEMIC.
For every brave step forward people who are addicted to pain pills take, society enjoys kicking them in the gut so that they can “remember their place” in the pecking order of our Socially Darwinistic civilization.
But we must continue to maintain hope, chin up, and push forward. In the long run, we all will be viewed as heroes who fought the necessary fight so that we can END addiction once and for all.
