WEST PALM BEACH — A psychiatrist and a substance abuse counselor who were treating a West Palm Beach woman who killed herself and her 10-year-old daughter in September 2013 have been sued in connection with the deaths that stunned the community.
As if it’s not bad enough that society always tends to blame the addict, now the addicted person’s family is suing the psychiatrist and substance abuse counselor for not doing enough.
While I certainly DO NOT KNOW ANY OF THE FACTS, I do know that, as a general premise, families are torn apart by substance use disorder and the societies goals must be to treat the entire family unit, not just the afflicted. SUD (Substance Use Disorder) tends to have a genetic predisposition to it as well, therefore, we must find solutions and place real effort behind treatment.
